Custom Cedar Done Right

PowerWood’s facility in Agassiz, British Columbia Canada is geared to produce a diverse mix of specialty Western red cedar, Alaskan yellow cedar and Western hemlock finished products. We are strategically set up to oversee the entire process — from handling raw materials to crafting the finished products PowerWood expertly manufacture nature’s best building material, any way you like it.

PowerWood produces and stocks a wide range of Western red cedar products ranging in size from 1” thick by 2” wide and thicker through to 12” and special orders.

PowerWood full sawn clears and appearance grade timbers are all sold both as rough green and as custom dried or finished product to our distributors.

Timbers are frequently used either rough or surfaced for feature applications in high end homes, institutions such as golf courses or hotels, outdoor shade structures, pergolas or in high end deck and fence applications.

Western Red Cedar is known for its appearance, dimensional stability and ability to stand up to the elements. Our Appearance grade FOHC (free of heart center) are perfect for outdoor applications like decks, fences, arbors and gazebos, cedar has natural oils that make it resistant to moisture, decay, weather and insects.

Its natural color and grain suit both traditional and contemporary designs, but it also takes stains and paints beautifully.

Cut predominantly from fine grain logs harvested from multiple locations in British Columbia, all material is inspected during saw-milling and analyzed by a number of different criteria such as the number of acceptable defects, tightness of grain, sapwood content, grain direction and consistency in fiber.

We have many different avenues for our clears, so we are able to inventory a large and diverse volume of material. On-site customization transforms many of our timbers and full-sawn clears into high-end decorative applications, emphasizing our focus on defect-free timbers.

THERMAL PROCESS
Our modification process involves drying, heating, and cooling timbers in a controlled kiln environment. By applying heat and steam at temperatures between 200 and 220°C, we alter the chemical properties of the wood, giving it a completely new life.

We are proud to conduct this process without using any chemicals, making it environmentally friendly. This method allows us to transform various types of wood into a stable, dark brown material that resists mold and insects, offering a look, feel, and durability similar to Western Red Cedar.
